From building networks to managing projects with AI

Javier Navarro Cerdá has worked in technology for more than twenty-five years. He started out repairing computers and setting up networks in his own company. He then managed software projects in travel, mobility and aviation. Today he works as a project manager and as a specialist in applied artificial intelligence. This page tells that story and what each stage left behind.

The common thread

Learned on the job

It is not a straight-line career but a set of layers. Each role added something the next one took for granted, and his books put that learning in writing.

01

Technology from the ground up

Servers, networks, databases and code. Knowing from the inside what is being built lets him lead technical teams in their own language.

02

The bottom line

Running his own companies for over a decade taught him what no course explains: balancing staff, customers and cash flow at the same time.

03

The customer at the centre

Implementations, requirements and production support. A project ends when the customer uses it, not when it is delivered.

04

Deciding with data

Business intelligence, financial reporting and dashboards. This is the foundation of data and judgement that applied AI now rests on.

Career

Six stages, one craft

From the earliest to the current one. Each stage shows the book that grew out of it.

  1. 2000 – 2011 · Tech entrepreneur

    Founding and running technology companies

XIPS Menorca · DUB Solutions · MAC Baleares

He left his computer engineering degree at the University of the Balearic Islands to start a business. He was partner and technical director at XIPS Menorca, an Apple service provider with revenue of around one million euros. He founded DUB Solutions, which built web applications on open-source software (PHP, MySQL, JavaScript) and offered hosting and domains. He also ran MAC Baleares as managing and technical director: an Apple service provider with a team of five to ten people.

This is where he learned to plan a team's work, share it out fairly and hit targets every day. He learned it before he knew it was called project management.

  2. 2011 – 2016 · Project manager

    The move into project management

Juniper Consulting · travel booking engines

He joined Juniper as a project manager in the travel industry. He handled requirements analysis and the customer relationship, as well as .NET development, XML connections and server configuration. He was still writing code, but now he answered to a customer for a project.

In this stage he saw that customer trust is earned by communicating. Planning exists to support that communication.

  3. 2016 – 2017 · Data

    Business intelligence and reporting

    Sunhotels · hotel booking engine

He moved to the data side as a business intelligence consultant at Sunhotels: internal sales and financial reports, data analysis, accounting BI and a blockchain implementation to improve booking accuracy.

He learned that a decision is only as good as the data behind it. Every artificial intelligence project needs that same foundation today.

  4. 2018 – 2021 · Product and consulting

Integration, product and senior technical projects

    Juniper Consulting · Juniper HUB

He returned to Juniper as product manager and technical consultant for Juniper HUB, the XML web-service connectivity layer with third-party partners. There he combined project management with sales consulting. In 2020 he became a senior project manager: product implementation, planning, monitoring and solution consulting.

Integrating other people's systems forces you to document well, define data contracts (XML and JSON schemas) and manage dependencies you do not control.

  5. 2021 – 2024 · Product and operations

    Process automation and implementations

    OK Mobility · Loqus Group

At OK Mobility he was senior product manager for supply-chain needs, focused on designing and automating processes. At Loqus Group he was the project manager in charge of software implementations and ongoing (BAU) customer support.

Automating a badly designed process only makes it fail faster. That is why design always comes before the tool, and he now applies the same rule to AI agents.

  6. 2024 – today · Aviation and applied AI

IT consultant and project manager in a critical environment

    World2Fly · Iberostar Group

At World2Fly, the Iberostar Group airline, he is IT consultant and project manager for the software used by the aircraft maintenance department. He supports the team and maintains the business intelligence layer in Qlik. It is a regulated environment, where traceability and risk control are mandatory.

Alongside this, applied artificial intelligence has become his second specialism. It covers cybersecurity against autonomous agents, the EU AI Act, risk management, AI literacy for teams and AI in connected devices. This is the consulting line of the site.

Education

Formal study and learning on the job

The academic part is short and the practical part is long. He started a computer engineering degree and left it to found his first company. Years later, already managing projects, he formalised that craft with a university expert diploma.

  1. University Expert in Project Management University of the Balearic Islands. A project management programme based on the PMBOK standard.
  2. Computer engineering (technical degree) University of the Balearic Islands. Started and left to become an entrepreneur.
  3. Three working languages Native Spanish and Catalan, and advanced English (B2). His project management manuals have English editions, and the site is published in all three languages.
